Civitas Schools is an educational management organization which operates three campuses of Chicago International Charter School (CICS). We serve approximately 2000 students in grades Kindergarten through 12, on four sites: CICS Ralph Ellison High School, CICS Northtown Academy High School, CICS ChicagoQuest and CICS Wrightwood Elementary School. Position Summary: Informed by the school's mission, the College Counselor will ensure that all students receive academic support and guidance by receiving individual postsecondary planning that guides students in identifying their strengths. A major emphasis should be placed on college readiness and preparation, from 9th grade through graduation.

Key Accountabilities/Duties

  • Serve as a resource for students, teachers, parents, guardians, and the school as a whole
  • Identifies, develops, and tracks success rates of school wide college preparatory curriculum
  • Collaborate with teachers to design programming for classroom and/or support when needed
  • Contribute to the school-wide college going culture by providing college awareness, preparation and access guidance using the OneGoal program and documenting it's success rate quarterly
  • Meet with junior and senior level students of concern to address areas of concern (attendance, grades, credits, etc.)
  • Designs student support plans as necessary
  • Monitor individual student progress and provide guidance throughout the college application process
  • Meet individually with student(s) and parents/to explore and identify appropriate college options
  • Guide students and their parents/guardians through the postsecondary process and supports the family's efforts to complete college and financial aid applications
  • Build and maintain relationships with college admission professionals
  • Coordinate college event planning and implementation with an annual calendar of events
  • Provide relevant training to students on appropriate interviewing techniques, self-assessment tools, and application essay writing techniques
  • Guide students understanding and utilizing Naviance, the college admission data management system, and CPS Learn, Plan, Succeed platform
  • Serve as lead in the arrangement of college visits and trips to local college fairs
  • Create on campus opportunities for college admissions officers to visit the school and meet with students
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of colleges and universities, which includes making regular visits to colleges
  • Stay current on higher education landscapes
  • Prepare and edit documents; check and enter data; prepare and send mailings and packages
  • Prepare supplementary materials to be sent to colleges
  • Oversee that school credentials (transcripts and letters of recommendation) are timely sent to colleges
  • Pursue appropriate professional development, including attendance at annual conference(s) in the counseling and admission professional organizations
  • Maintains current and accurate academic records and student files

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of relevant work experience in a High School setting
  • Master's Degree in education or relevant content (required)
  • Appropriate IL certifications (required)
